...its been two weeks since my last post and I have been quite busy, but I have managed to get through about another 30 pages. I read the first 10 pages in class, and another 22 pages today. I am still amazed that even though I am picking up the book and putting it down for days in between, when I start to read I seem to get right back into the book. I believe it is a combination of my deep interested in the subject of the US-Mexican border and the writer's style of writing. The reading is presented in a way which is very simple to read and seems to flow easily for me. I will continue reading and hope the willingness continues, which seems to return each time I pick up the book...

...I have chosen to read the Devil's Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea. I am about 45 pages into the book and so far, I am enjoying it. The book is a collection of true accounts of the Devil's Highway in New Mexico. The book goes into detail, while keeping the language simple. It is an easy read and I am looking forward to enjoying this book. The topic of the US-Mexican Border has always interested me. The first chapter has gone into describing the make up of the terrain and of the Border Patrol. Although I have heard of some questionable actions of the US Border Patrol, I had no idea that the US Border Patrol had such a disregard to human life. The actions of randomly firing their guns, torturing immigrants, and terrorizing immigrant on their way home are completely unacceptable. The descriptions of the harsh terrain make me sick to my stomach, thinking that people take such a risk because they are unhappy of their native country. The US Border Patrol's sense of entitlement is disgusting, especially for the US Border Patrol agents who are of Mexican themselves...
